This session with Joe began with a discussion of setting up for the start of practice. The importance of setting intention for the session, particularly for the session to be done for the benefit of being better able to help others. Then we apply the mental faculties of mindfulness and vigilance during the practice session. At the end, we mirror our opening intention by dedicating the benefit to others. After the mindfulness session, we practiced tonglen, and expanded it to include the planet itself, doing tonglen for “Mother Earth.”
