Meditation Group – Session [ #42 ]

After a brief discussion on the importance of ethics and morality on the meditative path, (sila in Sanskrit, which is the first step of the “Threefold Training,” followed by samadhi, or meditative absorption, which then leads to prajna, or insight), Andrew elaborates on this statement from the Jewish scholar-mystic Zvi Ish-Shalom, “If we are able to immerse ourselves completely in the moment, then transformation is guaranteed.” Why is this true? Engaging in dialogue with participants, we explore that truth only takes place in the present moment, and that by remaining in the present we deconstruct the storylines that pull us into “fake news,” a confabulated reality. Immersing ourselves in the moment frustrates the narrative structure of ego, which is why meditation can be frustrating.
