Transcript → Meditation Group [ 124 ] – with Joe Parent
We discussed taming the mind and relating with others. Then we did a sequence of practices. Stabilizing, centering, grounding, and working with the breathing, which is called shamatha practice, translated as “dwelling in peace” or “taming the mind.” Then we did environmental awareness and expanded out, decentralizing and connecting with the inseparability of our experience and the world that we are experiencing. And then we did compassion practice. That included compassion for ourselves, which is sometimes called making friends with yourself, and went on to work with friendliness, caring kindness, cultivating joy, and then compassion. After some discussion about the practices, we concluded by dedicating the benefit of the session to all beings.
